A Yard Driver, also known as a Yard Jockey or Yard Spotter, plays an essential role in the logistics industry. Their primary responsibility is to organize and manage the transportation yard, which involves moving and parking large trucks and trailers in designated spaces, loading and unloading cargo, and ensuring that all vehicles and equipment are well-maintained and safe for use. They also communicate and coordinate with dispatchers, warehouse teams, and drivers to ensure smooth operations and timely deliveries. Additionally, Yard Drivers are responsible for conducting regular inspections, reporting any damages, and adhering to all safety regulations and protocols.
The job requires certain skills and certifications. A Yard Driver must have excellent driving skills, a keen eye for detail, problem-solving abilities, and the physical stamina to withstand long hours and harsh weather conditions.
