Supervisor - Transportation Vehicle Shop

Purpose Statement

The job of Supervisor - Transportation Vehicle Shop is done for the purpose/s of ensuring the availability of vehicles in safe operating condition includes determining needed repairs and/or assisting with replacement projects on district vehicles; Overseeing required repairs and preventive maintenance; providing written documentation and reports to meet district, state and federal requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure fleet readiness with an average of 90% , ensures fleet is safe and within state and local standards at all times
  • Oversee lead technician to Diagnose, Prioritize and dispatch repairs to best-suited technicians.
  • Open and close work orders as repairs are completed, with accurate time and parts accounted for.
  • Co-ordinate DPS Inspections for school buses, DOT inspections for White fleet vehicles as required.
  • Execute and maintain a preventive maintenance and safety inspection program with 95% on time inspections.
  • Maintains tools, equipment and/or shop area for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required tools and equipment within a safe work area.
  • Tracks and coordinates bulk fuel program, emission-testing program, Oil sampling program, and emissions compliance for fleet.
  • Prepares purchase orders, and tracks available balances for each vendor.
  • Oversee all work being performed to ensure quality and efficiency of repairs.
  • Tracks and reports (KPIs) Tech efficiency, Work load, unit down, fuel levels, fuel usage, tire management and other reports as assigned
  • Oversee parts department insuring proper inventory on hand, obsolescence is minimal, and inventory is accurate. Purchases made as per purchasing guidelines by district, at the lowest feasible prices.
  • Oversees upholstery repairs for fleet
  • Orchestrates road calls regarding accidents, or disabled vehicles for the purpose of performing emergency repair work in the field and/or determining if a vehicle needs to be towed.
  • Supervises Lead technicians, Technician 1 and Technician 2 positions
  • Arranges training classes for technicians when needed or available. Ensures Shop safety and OSHA requirements are being met.

Other Functions

  • Assists technicians as needed for the purpose of completing difficult tasks and responding to coworker requests.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Performs personnel functions (e.g. evaluating, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that department functions are performed efficiently and specific concerns are addressed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Effort - Level 1 Minimal physical exertion is required. Most job time is spent sitting with occasional walking. Occasional lifting, guiding, and carrying of lightweight materials or equipment.

Experience, Education, and Certifications

Experience: Job-related experience within the specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Certifications/Clearances: Annual Alcohol and Drug Test. Pre-employment Medical Exam. Must possess a valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card while employed. Bus Driver's Certificate Commercial Driver's License, Class B with passenger and school bus endorsement. CPR Certificate. D & A reasonable suspicion Certificate. 609 Refrigerant Recycling and Procedure Certificate.

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay Schedule: Salary - E123

Work Calendar: 12 Month Long
