The Dispatcher coordinates daily driver operations, schedules deliveries, and manages logistics in a high-volume, multi-product environment. This role serves as the central hub between drivers, customers, and internal teams, ensuring efficient routing, real-time issue resolution, and on-time delivery. The Dispatcher provides strong operational oversight, adapting dispatching processes based on product type and continuously adjusting plans throughout the day to support safe, compliant, and efficient transportation operations.
Responsibilities
Plan, build, and finalize daily and next-day delivery schedules for drivers and equipment.
Assign routes and dispatch drivers based on product type, geography, and customer requirements.
Serve as the central point of communication between drivers, customers, and internal teams to ensure clear and timely information flow.
Monitor drivers in real time using tracking systems and adjust schedules and routes as needed.
Create and manage work orders, ensuring all delivery and job details are accurate, complete, and clearly communicated.
Troubleshoot delays, route changes, and operational issues in a fast-paced environment, providing timely solutions.
Maintain compliance with DOT regulations, safety standards, and internal company policies.
Build next-day schedules in the afternoon and prepare driver documentation, including maps, work orders, and contact information.
Begin the workday early (around 5:00 a.m.) to support driver departures and confirm operational readiness.
Confirm drivers understand their assigned routes, materials, and expectations before dispatch.
Monitor routes and delivery progress throughout the day using tracking software and other dispatch tools.
Respond promptly to real-time issues such as delays, driver needs, and customer updates, adjusting plans as necessary.
Support the oversight and coordination of 12-15 drivers and daily delivery operations.
Assist in managing fleet assets, including trucks, trailers, and related equipment.
Operate within multiple dispatch workflows that vary by product line, adapting processes to meet operational demands.
Collaborate with leadership and operations teams to improve dispatch processes and enhance overall delivery performance.
Essential Skills
Prior dispatching or logistics coordination experience.
Experience supervising others in an operational or field-based environment.
Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Strong multitasking and problem-solving abilities with a focus on real-time issue resolution.
Effective communication skills for interacting with drivers, customers, and leadership.
Ability to adapt to changing schedules, priorities, and systems throughout the day.
Proficiency with dispatch and fleet tracking platforms such as Samsara or similar tools.
Familiarity with maintenance and asset tracking tools such as MaintainX or comparable systems.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Teams, and Excel.
Knowledge of logistics, fleet management, transportation management, and driver management.
Ability to work with work orders and manage load planning within transportation operations.
Understanding of DOT regulations and safety standards related to transportation compliance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience supervising or leading drivers or field staff.
Experience with fleet tracking or dispatch software, including platforms like Agvance SKY Dispatch.
