Forklift Operator Job Description This role operates in a busy lumber yard and focuses on safely and efficiently moving, loading, and organizing lumber and building materials to support smooth daily operations and timely service for customers and delivery partners. Pay: $21/hr Shift: First (1st) shift: 6:00am - 2:30pm, Monday - Friday Responsibilities Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment to load, unload, and transport lumber and building materials throughout the yard. Safely stack, store, and organize lumber and related products in designated yard areas to maximize space and accessibility. Assist with inventory management by tracking incoming and outgoing shipments and helping ensure accurate counts. Perform daily inspections of forklifts and other equipment, and promptly report any maintenance or safety issues. Support customers and delivery drivers by accurately and safely loading their orders. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with company policies and OSHA safety standards. Collaborate closely with yard staff and leadership to coordinate tasks and ensure an efficient workflow. Use pallet jacks and RF scanners as needed to move, pick, and track materials. Operate both sit-down and stand-up forklifts to handle a variety of material-handling tasks. Essential Skills Proven ability to operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely and efficiently. Experience using sit-down forklifts in a warehouse, lumber yard, or similar environment. Experience using stand-up forklifts for maneuvering in tighter spaces and handling pallets. Proficiency with pallet jacks for moving and staging materials. Ability to perform material handling tasks, including lifting and moving materials up to 50 lbs. Skill in using RF scanners to pick, track, and verify inventory. Valid forklift certification or license, or willingness to obtain one. Strong attention to safety and detail when operating equipment and handling materials. Good communication skills to coordinate with coworkers, customers, and delivery drivers. Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced yard environment. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in an outdoor lumber yard with regular exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, and noise. The role is physically demanding and requires standing, walking, lifting, and operating equipment for extended periods throughout the shift. Team members regularly operate sit-down and stand-up forklifts, pallet jacks, and RF scanners to move and organize materials. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to OSHA standards, and maintaining a clean, orderly yard to support efficient and safe operations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lakeville, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
