Stock Clerk Gas

Receives, stores, and issues equipment, material, supplies, merchandise, or tools, and compiles stock records in stockroom, warehouse, or storage yard by performing the following duties.

  • Counts, sorts, or weighs incoming articles to verify receipt of items on requisition or invoices.
  • Examines stock to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Stores articles in bins, on floor, or on shelves, according to identifying information such as style, size, or type of material.
  • Fills orders or issues supplies from stock.
  • Requisitions articles to fill incoming orders.
  • Compiles reports for Stores/Safety Coordinator on use of stock handling equipment, adjustments of inventory counts and stock records, damage to stock, location changes, and refusal of shipments.
  • Marks identifying codes, figures, or letters on articles.
  • Distributes stock among workers, keeping records of material issued.
  • Makes adjustments or repairs to articles carried in stock.
  • Determines methods of storage, identification, and stock location considering temperature, humidity, height and weight limits, turnover, floor loading capacities, and required space.
  • Cuts stock to size to fill order.
  • Moves or transports material or supplies to other sections of the Gas Department.
  • Maintains inventory and other stock records as required by the Inventory Controller.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Stores/Safety Coordinator within the scope of this job.
  • Maintains the stock room and warehouse in a neat, clean, and orderly manner, i.e., sweeps floors, keeps all loose materials picked up, and disposes of all waste materials.
  • Maintains an effective working relationship with the Stores/Safety Coordinator, and other employees of the Gas and Water/Wastewater Department.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate with additional coursework related to business or inventory control.
  • Eighteen months to three years' experience in a related job, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the department.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Must reside within thirty (30) miles of the warehouse at 650 Rickwood Road.

Physical Demands:

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
