Job Title: Production Lead Artisan Cheese Manufacturing

Job Description

This role leads and supports hands-on cheese production in a highly physical, artisan environment. You will oversee production technicians, handle heavy cheese wheels, follow precise recipes, and ensure strict adherence to food safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). This position is ideal for someone who enjoys physical work, takes pride in craftsmanship, and has experience supervising or leading others in a production setting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise production technicians during daily cheese-making operations.

  • Participate directly in hands-on cheese production, including forming, turning, salting, and aging handmade cheese.

  • Handle and move cheese wheels weighing approximately 4060 pounds consistently throughout the shift.

  • Perform material handling tasks carefully, recognizing that each wheel represents significant product value.

  • Follow detailed recipes and production procedures to ensure consistent quality and product standards.

  • Maintain strict compliance with GMP and FDA regulations at all times during production.

  • Promote and enforce safe work practices, including proper lifting techniques and sanitation procedures.

  • Support general production tasks such as labeling, packaging, and preparing products for sale or distribution.

  • Monitor production areas to ensure cleanliness, organization, and adherence to serious cheese manufacturing practices.

  • Coordinate with team members to meet production goals and timelines while maintaining high quality standards.

  • Adapt to changing production needs, schedules, and tasks as required by the business.

  • Provide guidance, feedback, and support to team members to maintain a positive, energetic, and productive work environment.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to consistently lift and carry 4060 pounds throughout the workday.

  • Proven experience leading or supervising individuals in a production or similar environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow and enforce GMP and serious cheese manufacturing practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in food manufacturing or food production environments.

  • Background in general production, general labor, or similar hands-on roles.

  • Comfort working within FDA-regulated and GMP-compliant facilities.

  • Interest in developing into a skilled artisan cheesemaker through professional training.

  • Strong communication skills for giving direction and feedback to team members.

  • High level of physical stamina and endurance for repetitive, demanding tasks.

Work Environment

The role is based in a lively downtown market setting and operates within a busy, energetic production environment. Work is highly physical, and many people underestimate the level of exertion required; you will be on your feet, lifting and moving heavy cheese wheels for most of the shift. The facility follows strict GMP and FDA regulations, with a strong emphasis on cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety. Shifts typically run from 3:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and schedules are structured as four 10-hour shifts that always include at least one weekend day, with some flexibility in scheduling and time off. The culture is upbeat and happy, and employees are encouraged to bring their authentic selves to work while maintaining professional standards and compliance with all food safety requirements.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Seattle, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.55 - $25.55/hr.
