The purpose of this classification is to receive, store, and distribute of a large and varied stock of materials, equipment, parts, and supplies for the City.
Leads warehouse operations, programs and work activities in accordance with establishes policies, priorities and work schedules; monitors operations to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and safety procedures.
Receives and distributes orders for a variety of supplies and equipment, including hazardous materials; prepares and submits purchase orders; forwards invoices; verifies accuracy and completeness of incoming orders; identifies incorrect or damaged items; unpacks and stores incoming supplies; loads and unloads to proper storage area; distributes supplies and equipment to requesting department; maintains computer files and documentation for all purchases, receipts and distributions.
Monitors inventory levels of supplies and equipment; maintains adequate levels of supplies to ensure availability; notifies appropriate personnel regarding stock levels of all overages, shortages, or out-of-stock items; oversees and participates in periodic physical inventories; enters inventory stock data into computer database; completes inventory reports and maintains related files.
Conducts daily inspections of warehouse facilities and equipment; cleans warehouse facilities and equipment; performs general maintenance of warehouse and grounds.
Communicates with supervisor, City employees, vendors, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Prepares or completes various forms, reports, pick tickets, material transfers, expediting letters, purchase order logs or other documentation of service activities; forwards, retains, or files, as appropriate.
Receives various forms, reports, delivery tickets, pick tickets, purchase orders, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
Operates a forklift, front-end loader, pick-up and flatbed trucks, pallet jacks, hand dollies, a personal computer, general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software.
Must be able to operate a forklift safely.High school diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) year of experience in warehouse operations or operating a forklift; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess a valid drivers license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana drivers license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
