TITLE: Transportation Coordinator (Part-Time)

REPORTS TO: Operations Director

Position Purpose

Under the direction of the Operations Director, the Transportation Coordinator assists in the management and daily operation of the district's transportation department. This position helps ensure safe, efficient, and reliable transportation services for students by coordinating personnel, vehicle maintenance, regulatory compliance, and transportation operations. The Transportation Coordinator may also drive a regular or substitute bus route as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily transportation operations and route coverage.
  • Assist with the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, and supervision of transportation staff.
  • Coordinate bus inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs, and fleet records.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district transportation requirements.
  • Assist with transportation scheduling for activities, athletics, and field trips.
  • Respond to transportation concerns from staff, students, and families.
  • Maintain required transportation records and reports.
  • Drive a regular route, activity route, or substitute route as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Director.

  • Knowledge of transportation operations, fleet management, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and respond effectively to changing needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to use technology and transportation management systems effectively.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely operate a school bus and other district vehicles.
  • Ability to perform vehicle inspections and to occasionally lift, bend, climb, and engage in other physical activities associated with transportation operations.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements or the ability to obtain and maintain required endorsements.
  • Ability to meet all state and federal requirements for school bus drivers.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, families, staff, and community members.

Preferred

  • Experience in student transportation, fleet management, logistics, or a related field.
  • Experience supervising or coordinating staff.
  • Knowledge of school transportation regulations and best practices.
  • Experience coordinating vehicle maintenance and repair schedules.

Terms of Employment

  • Part-time position.
  • Compensation of $30.00 per hour.
  • Work schedule determined by district needs.
  • Additional hours may be required during emergencies, special events, staffing shortages, or other operational needs.
