Overview

The Forklift Operator is responsible for utiliz ing a forklift to move materials around a storage yard, factory, or similar location. The Forklift Operator is also responsible for load ing and unload ing trucks, performing routine forklift maintenance , assisting with inventory documentation , and supporting full adherence to safety compliance regulations.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Conducting pre-operation forklift inspections.

  • Operate lifting devices, i.e . forklifts, lift beams and swivel hooks .

  • Confirm inventory transactions are complete.

  • Manually load and unload materials from pallets, skids, platforms, cars , and lifting devices.

  • Put away received materials to proper storage locations .

  • Ability to readily determine the correct tools and equipment needed to do a job.

  • Accurately ship and receive product .

  • May perform other activities such as assisting in taking inventory and weighing/checking materials.

  • Support inventory control with accurate documentation .

  • Perform routine maintenance on forklifts .

  • Accurately weigh and document materials .

  • Participate in clean-up of yard and facility.

  • Perform all duties in accordance with Silent-Aire Limited Partnership safety program standards and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code.

  • Perform other duties as assigned .

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Minimum of 2 years experience working as a forklift operator in a warehouse/shipping environment with a valid forklift operator license.

  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

  • Knowledge of safe lifting and handling techniques.

  • Must have the physical ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 35 lbs.

Working Conditions

  • Employee may be exposed to uncomfortable work settings such as cold or hot weather outdoors .

  • M ay have combinations of standing, crouching, or sitting throughout the day.

  • F ast-paced environment.

  • Overtime as required .
