This role provides strategic leadership for enterprise logistics operations across inbound and outbound transportation, distribution, and cross-border freight activity for U.S. and Canada operations. This role is accountable for driving service performance, improving shipment reliability through disciplined carrier evaluation and network management, and leading cost reduction initiatives related to corporate freight spend.
The Director also provides enterprise-level visibility into freight cost trends, supports internal benchmarking across facilities and business units, and leads freight price increase forecasting to support budgeting, pricing decisions, and financial planning. The role partners cross-functionally with operations, sales, customer service, procurement, finance, and plant leadership to develop scalable logistics strategies, standardize processes across locations, and ensure efficient, compliant, cost-effective, and customer-focused movement of goods.
Responsibilities:
Develop and lead the corporate logistics strategy for inbound, outbound, intercompany, and distribution movements across multiple locations.
Drive customer service performance by establishing logistics service standards, monitoring key delivery metrics, and partnering with operating sites to improve on-time and in-full shipment execution.
Improve shipment reliability through formal carrier evaluation, scorecards, business reviews, and performance-based carrier selection across LTL, TL, parcel, air, and other modes as required.
Lead freight procurement and contract negotiations with carriers, brokers, customs providers, and third-party logistics partners to support service, capacity, and cost objectives.
Own enterprise freight spend strategy, including budget development, monthly reporting, trend analysis, and identification and execution of cost reduction initiatives.
Identify, prioritize, and implement network, routing, mode, consolidation, and process optimization opportunities that reduce total delivered cost while protecting service levels.
Provide governance for TMS strategy, carrier routing guides, and logistics systems to improve visibility, decision quality, and compliance with standard operating procedures.
Establish consistent logistics policies, KPIs, and reporting across all facilities to support performance management, accountability, and fact-based decision-making.
Partner with plant, operations, finance, and commercial leaders to align logistics capabilities with business growth, customer requirements, and network capacity needs.
Ensure compliance with transportation, customs, trade, and safety requirements and drive standardization of cross-border shipping practices and documentation.
Lead and develop logistics managers and site teams by setting direction, building capability, and promoting collaboration across functions and locations.
Champion continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service, strengthen shipment execution, improve labor and loading efficiency, and deliver measurable business results.
Develop internal logistics benchmarks across plants, business units, lanes, modes, and carriers to identify cost, service, and process performance gaps and support enterprise-wide best practice adoption.
Partner with Finance and Leadership teams to support freight budgeting, forecast future cost pressures, evaluate carrier rate increases, and provide data-driven input into pricing, surcharge, and recovery strategies.
Own enterprise freight spend strategy, including budget development, monthly reporting, trend analysis, freight rate forecasting, annual carrier price increase modeling, and execution of cost reduction initiatives.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Engineering, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive logistics, transportation, supply chain, or distribution experience, including significant leadership responsibility in a multi-site environment.
Demonstrated success developing and executing logistics strategies that improve service, shipment reliability, and freight cost performance.
Strong experience in carrier management, freight procurement, contract negotiation, and performance management across multiple transportation modes.
Proven financial and analytical acumen with experience managing large freight budgets, interpreting complex data, and leading cost reduction initiatives.
Ability to translate business objectives into scalable logistics processes, policies, metrics, and operating standards across multiple facilities.
Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing senior leaders in operations, finance, sales, customer service, and procurement.
Strong knowledge of TMS and freight systems, transportation analytics, and continuous improvement methodologies; ERP and systems implementation experience preferred.
Working knowledge of domestic and cross-border transportation, trade compliance, and customs processes relevant to U.S. and Canada operations.
Experience developing internal benchmarks, scorecards, and comparative performance reporting across plants, business units, transportation modes, carriers, and shipping lanes.
Proven financial and analytical acumen with experience managing large freight budgets, developing freight cost forecasts, supporting annual budgeting, and modeling the impact of carrier rate increases, fuel trends, and network changes.
Executive-level communication, leadership, and change management skills, with the ability to build alignment, develop talent, and drive results in a complex organization.
