Shipping Clerk Job Description The Shipping Clerk prepares and processes outbound shipments using UPS, FedEx, and less-than-truckload (LTL) freight carriers. This role involves accurately picking parts, updating inventory in the computer system, coordinating with trucks and shipping brokers for pickups, and supporting overall warehouse operations. The Shipping Clerk will receive cross-training across all shipping methods to ensure flexibility and coverage within the team. Responsibilities Prepare products for shipment using UPS, FedEx, and LTL (freight) carriers in accordance with company procedures. Accurately pick orders from the warehouse, ensuring the correct parts and quantities are selected for each shipment. Update inventory levels in the computer system as parts are pulled, shipped, or moved to maintain accurate stock records. Coordinate with truck drivers and shipping brokers to schedule and confirm pickups and deliveries. Use sit-down and/or stand-up forklifts to move materials, load and unload shipments, and organize products in the warehouse. Perform general material handling tasks, including packing, labeling, and staging orders for shipment. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shipping and warehouse area. Communicate clearly and professionally with internal team members and external partners regarding shipping status and requirements. Adapt to fluctuating workloads, handling slower periods efficiently and responding quickly when urgent orders arrive. Participate in cross-training across all shipping processes to provide coverage and support throughout the department. Essential Skills At least 2 years of experience in shipping, warehouse operations, or a similar role. Experience working with UPS, FedEx, or freight carriers is required. Minimum of 1 year of forklift experience, with proficiency in either stand-up or sit-down forklifts (experience with both is preferred). At least 1 year of warehouse, picking, and packing experience. Basic computer aptitude and the ability to learn and use shipping and inventory systems. Experience with order picking and material handling in a warehouse environment. Strong communication skills to interact effectively with drivers, brokers, and internal teams. Reliable attendance and a strong track record of punctuality. Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail while working with shipping documentation and inventory updates. Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and follow established processes. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience using SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) or inventory management systems. Prior experience coordinating with shipping brokers. Comfort operating both sit-down and stand-up forklifts. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle urgent orders when needed. Trainable mindset with openness to cross-training across multiple shipping methods. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks within a shipping and warehouse environment.
