Senior Director, Transportation

Position Summary

The Senior Director, Transportation is responsible for managing critical and high impact transportation strategic and operational project(s). This position is accountable for life cycle management of transportation projects, including long term strategy, process improvements, data management, in process problem solving, communication, and ultimate execution. The position leads to delivering significant efficiencies, cost reduction opportunities and innovative service changes that help the team meet service goals and objectives. Acts as thought-partner, problem solver, and change agent to internal and external stakeholders with an unwavering commitment to getting the job done. REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in a field related to this position
  • Master's Degree preferred, but not required
  • 3+ years of previous work experience in a similar position related to operations, logistics, project management, and/or transportation preferred
  • Previous work experience leading cross-functional work with multiple stakeholder groups and teams preferred
  • Track record of managing projects and initiatives that achieved or exceeded ambitious goals preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish Speaking (preferred)
  • School Transportation Supervisors Certificate or current enrollment (Preferred or willing to obtain)
  • A valid driver's license as well as current insurance and vehicle with valid registration
  • Required criminal history background check, physical and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

Core Responsibilities

Major responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

Implement, Monitor, and Review Data Accuracy and Transportation Eligibility:

  • Monitor and innovate data sources that are integral to the integrity of transportation requests, particularly in our work with key vendors
  • Manage daily and weekly student transportation data to ensure all eligible students are receiving the required transportation
  • Create and maintain bus roster reports that are automatically sent to schools at scheduled intervals
  • Compile and submit required transportation state reporting (DRTRS)
  • Review and revise transportation policies and practices in an effort to serve our students' needs and district goals.
  • Maintain district software for the planning and evaluating school district bus routes.

Ensure Short and Long-term Cost Efficiency:

  • Work with vendors to solve problems and develop strategies that will maximize the value of services provided to CCSD and its students
  • Analyze micro and macro level route information to identify route and cost efficiencies
  • Monitor and process monthly billing of transportation services.
  • Review staffing levels and salary agreements that will place CCSD in best possible situation to maintain and expand services

Implement and Lead Systems Leading to Excellent Service:

  • Develop, maintain, and own communication processes that engage internal and external stakeholders around transportation needs and priorities
  • Proactively plan for and respond to the transportation needs of students, families, and school service teams within CCSD and partner organizations
  • Collaborate and problem solve with vendors to ensure the highest quality of service provided to our students, families, and schools.
  • Develop and manage team member(s) to ensure the highest quality of service to all stakeholders
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the School Business Administrator.

Terms of Employment

Twelve-month position. Salary, benefits, and conditions of employment shall be in accordance with Board policy and applicable agreements.

Evaluation

Performance shall be evaluated annually in accordance with Board policy, administrative regulations, and district leadership procedures.

Supervises:

Work Year: Twelve (12) Months

Classification: Non-Affiliated

Minimum Starting Salary: $120,000.00

Maximum Starting Salary: $150,000.00

Residency Requirement

Under New Jersey's "New Jersey First Act" (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7), all employees of New Jersey public school districts must maintain bona fide New Jersey residency as a condition of employment. Candidates must already reside in New Jersey or establish residency within the required timeframe after hire. Current employees who were hired on or before September 1, 2011 are exempt from this requirement and may continue to reside outside the state. In limited circumstances, applicants may request a residency waiver through the state's Employee Residency Review Committee if they can demonstrate critical need or hardship; approval is not guaranteed.
