Job Description
The Buyer supports the full purchasing lifecycle by entering and managing purchase orders, tracking supply chain activities after order placement, and serving as a key liaison between plant production teams and suppliers. This role procures required materials from approved vendors, maintains accurate pricing and delivery schedules, and ensures materials are available to support a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Enter, review, and maintain purchase orders in the ERP system with a high level of accuracy.
- Track purchase orders after entry to monitor status, on-time delivery, and overall supply chain performance.
- Interact regularly with both domestic and international suppliers to confirm pricing, lead times, and delivery schedules.
- Serve as a liaison between plant production teams and suppliers to ensure materials are available to support manufacturing needs.
- Verify material requirements and prepare purchase orders for approved vendors in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records of purchasing activities, including pricing, quantities, and delivery commitments.
- Use basic Excel formulas to support purchasing and data analysis activities related to materials and supply chain performance.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve issues related to material availability, order discrepancies, or schedule changes.
- Apply strong negotiation skills to secure favorable pricing, terms, and delivery conditions from suppliers.
- Utilize MRP and ERP tools, including Microsoft Business Central or similar systems, to plan and manage material requirements.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with suppliers and internal teams, providing updates on order status and resolving questions or concerns.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, managing daily purchasing tasks and priorities effectively.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail in all purchasing documentation and system entries.
- Participate in continuous improvement of purchasing processes and supply chain practices.
- Travel occasionally as needed for supplier visits, meetings, or related business needs.
Essential Skills
- 2-5 years of buyer or purchasing experience, preferably in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on purchasing experience with SKUs for manufacturing operations.
- Experience working with MRP or ERP systems; Microsoft Business Central preferred.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the use of formulas for purchasing and data analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word.
- Strong negotiation skills to secure competitive pricing and favorable terms from suppliers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with suppliers and internal teams.
- Ability to work productively with minimal supervision and operate as a self-starter.
- Ability to learn quickly and build on newly acquired knowledge.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in purchase orders and related documentation.
- Effective teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional colleagues.
- Willingness and ability to travel minimally as required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- APICS certification is a plus.
- Experience working in a global manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with supply chain processes and best practices.
- Experience using ERP systems specifically within a manufacturing context, such as Microsoft Business Central.
- Demonstrated ability to support real-world industrial applications is advantageous.
Work Environment
This is a fully onsite role in a manufacturing environment within a growing, global organization that focuses on real-world industrial applications such as fluid and wastewater systems. The workplace culture is casual and collaborative, with a relaxed dress code where most employees wear jeans and sweatshirts. The position involves regular use of ERP systems (including Microsoft Business Central), Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, as well as interaction with production and supply chain teams on-site. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
