Purchasing Supervisor Job Description The Purchasing Supervisor leads procurement activities within the Service Parts Division with a primary focus on packaging, kitting, and indirect materials, including MRO for multiple distribution locations. This role ensures timely and cost-effective sourcing of goods and services that support aftermarket operations, while maintaining high standards of quality, compliance, and supplier performance. The position offers the opportunity to grow into other areas of the organization, including direct purchasing, within a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Responsibilities Supervise daily purchasing operations related to packaging materials, kitting components, and indirect goods and services. Oversee all indirect purchasing for MRO supporting multiple distribution locations, including services related to forklift maintenance, dock doors and dock plates, engines remanufacturing, repairs, and battery maintenance. Develop, manage, and strengthen relationships with new and existing suppliers to ensure performance, quality, and cost targets are consistently met. Lead RFQ (Request for Quote) processes, including preparing bid packages, evaluating proposals, and coordinating supplier selection. Conduct supplier negotiations to secure favorable pricing, terms, and service levels, and manage supplier contracts throughout their lifecycle. Monitor and analyze market trends, pricing, and supplier performance to identify and implement cost-saving and value-improvement opportunities. Collaborate closely with engineering, logistics, operations, and other cross-functional teams to align purchasing strategies with business and aftermarket service needs. Support inventory management and forecasting efforts to maintain optimal stock levels for service parts packaging, kits, and indirect materials. Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and quality standards. Drive continuous improvement initiatives in procurement processes, supplier performance, and overall purchasing strategy, leveraging Lean and other improvement methodologies where applicable. Utilize ERP systems and procurement tools to create and manage purchase orders, maintain accurate supplier data, and generate reports and analyses. Perform heavy market testing and benchmarking to identify best-value suppliers and innovative sourcing options, operating with a mindset similar to a start-up. Manage project-based procurement work, including packaging and kitting projects, from planning and sourcing through execution and follow-up. Provide leadership, guidance, and development to team members, fostering a high-performance, collaborative purchasing function. Analyze purchasing data, pricing, and supplier metrics to support strategic decision-making and continuous optimization of procurement activities. Contribute to training and development related to purchasing processes, tools, and best practices. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of purchasing experience, preferably in the automotive or manufacturing industry. Strong knowledge of packaging materials, kitting processes, and indirect procurement, including MRO. Proven leadership and team management experience in a purchasing or procurement environment. Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to secure favorable pricing, terms, and service levels. Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with suppliers and cross-functional teams. Advanced analytical skills to interpret market data, pricing, and supplier performance metrics and to support strategic purchasing decisions. Proficiency in ERP systems (such as SAP or Oracle) for managing purchase orders, supplier information, and reporting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including strong Excel skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Familiarity with Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies. Experience working in a service parts or aftermarket environment. Experience with warehouse leasing and related procurement activities. Background in strategic purchasing, indirect/MRO purchasing, and project-based procurement. Experience in packaging, kitting, and indirect purchasing within a distribution or manufacturing setting. Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities to support long-term procurement and sourcing strategies. Demonstrated capability in RFQ management, supplier analysis, and cost benchmarking.
