PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Designs and administers a comprehensive driver training program and supports the onboarding process for new drivers, ensuring compliance with all applicable requirements from the district, Secretary of State, and Department of Transportation. Support the safe and efficient operation of student transportation services by coordinating daily driver activities, managing route logistics, and maintaining compliance with district and state regulations.

COMPENSATION RANGE: $27.10 - $28.99
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives and parameters found in the Board's strategic plan.
Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
Participates in the selection and recruitment of an adequate number of bus driver applicants to effectively provide safe service.
Develops and implements a training program for drivers by:
a. Accepting applications, interviewing, and reviewing work history of applicants.
b. Providing classroom and on-the road training sessions.
c. Providing re-training program.
d. Evaluating new drivers during route operation.
e. Schedule applicants for testing with the IL DMV
May operate a school bus on a route on an emergency basis as needed

Checks in drivers and monitors their movements during the operation of their daily routes.
Assigns substitute buses and drivers where appropriate.
Informs drivers of field trips or extra trip assignments as needed.
May drive a school bus on an emergency basis as needed.
Prepares reports and maintains records as required (within the areas of responsibility).
Various clerical duties such as answering telephones, checking student transportation information, and interacting with parents and school staff
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED certificate. Must have or be able to obtain (within 60 days of hire) and maintain a Class "B" CDL with School Bus, Passenger and Airbrake endorsements. Certified 3rd party bus driver testing administrator for the State of Illinois and a clean driving record.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the roads and routes within the City of Rockford.
Knowledge of procedures to follow when buses break down.
Proficient in Spanish (dependent upon department need)
WORKING CALENDER: 12- month
WORKING CONDITIONS: Moderate-in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and
out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work. Occasional night
and weekend hours required.
