Job Title: Special Populations Transportation Supervisor
Reports to: Director for Transportation Services

Exemption Status: Exempt
Pay Scale: TD 8
Calendar: 226 Days
Primary Purpose: Provide leadership, coordination, and oversight of all special education transportation services to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant transportation for students with disabilities. Serve as the primary liaison between transportation, special education staff, campuses, and parents while ensuring a high level of service and accountability.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
- Clear and valid Texas Commercial Driver's License with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
- Acceptable driving record in accordance with Texas DPS guidelines for school bus drivers
- Current TEA Texas School Bus Driver Safety Certificate
- TAPT Special Needs Supervisor Certification preferred
Experience:
- Prior experience as a certified school bus driver required
- Minimum of 2 years experience as a Special Programs Router preferred
- 3 years special needs experience or 5 years as a special needs school bus driver preferred
- Prior supervisory experience preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of state and federal special education transportation requirements (IDEA)
- Strong understanding of student IEPs as they relate to transportation services
- Ability to use routing software and transportation management systems
- Mastery of district software to develop route schedules, spreadsheets, databases, and word processing documents
- Ability to read and understand policies and procedures manuals
- Ability to receive and give clear written and verbal instructions
- Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Ability to problem-solve and make decisions in high-pressure situations
- Pleasant and caring attitude toward students, parents, and staff
- Ability to adjust to different assignments daily
- Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug testing
- Ability to pass annual DPS physical and all required driver qualifications
- Maintain all certifications and qualifications required of school bus drivers
- Ability to successfully complete the Little Elm ISD Special Needs Training Program
- Ability to pass the Little Elm ISD Physical Abilities Test
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide supervision and oversight of all special education transportation operations
- Coordinate daily transportation services for special education students
- Develop, maintain, and audit special education bus routes to ensure compliance, safety, and efficiency
- Ensure special programs student transportation handbook is kept up to date and communicate any changes to the Director of Transportation Services for review
- Conduct regular ride-along monitoring to ensure adherence to assigned routes and address driver concerns
- Review student IEPs to determine appropriate transportation accommodations and services
- Maintain a master record of all special education routes and provide daily operating copies to the Dispatchers
- Track and monitor special education transportation attendance, including no-call/no-shows
- Respond to complaints regarding special education transportation services and resolve issues appropriately
- Redirect concerns to the Director of Transportation Services as needed
- Work directly with parents, campuses, and staff to ensure a high level of service
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and district regulations
- Oversee special education equipment and inventory, ensuring proper use and maintenance
- Ensure monthly SHARS reporting is completed accurately and on time
- Meet all deadlines related to special education transportation operations
- Supervise, assign, and support drivers and monitors on special education routes
- Provide training, guidance, and coaching on student-specific needs, equipment use, and safety procedures
- Investigate special education bus accidents with a focus on student-related factors and post-accident review
- Drive a school bus route as required by the Transportation Services Department.
- Assist with planning transportation for special education field trips and extracurricular activities
- Collaborate with campus administrators and instructional staff to meet the needs of students with disabilities (PK-12).
- Ensure disciplinary procedures for students with disabilities follow legal and IEP requirements.
- Provide technical assistance to Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committees regarding interpretation of evaluation data and development of appropriate student plans.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation
- Perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervise bus drivers, bus monitors, and aides assigned to special education routes
- Assist in evaluating staff performance and addressing concerns related to safety, attendance, and job performance

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; two-way radio; Navigation Software; school bus; safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisher;
Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); Ability to lift and assist students with mobility needs
Environment: Work inside, may work outside; May be exposed to biological hazards and bodily fluids; work must be performed onsite.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; may work prolonged or irregular hours
