POSITION SUMMARY:
To enable each student, through safe and efficient transportation, to take full advantage of the complete range of curricular and extra-curricular activities offered by the district's schools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist and act in a confidential capacity with respect to a person who determines and effectuates management procedures and school board policies.
- Conform with all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation.
- Maintain safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventive safety.
- Train and supervise all transportation personnel and make recommendations to the Superintendent for his/her consideration on their employment, re-employment, discharge and/or termination.
- Advise the superintendent on road hazards for decision on school closings or early dismissal or delayed schedule during inclement weather.
- Act as liaison with contractors and principals for consultation on road hazards for decision on school closing or early dismissal or delayed schedule during inclement weather.
- Cooperate and coordinate with school principal(s) and other responsible for planning special school trips or the coordination of school closing, early dismissal or delay schedule.
- Develop and administer a transportation program to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extra-curricular activities.
- Develop and administer a contractual transportation program to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extra-curricular activities.
- Formulate the specifications to be incorporated in contractual agreements
- Approve alterations to contractual agreements when requested by contractors.
- Prepare bus routes for all public and non-public schools in the district.
- Prepare and updates bus schedules for all public and non-public schools in the district.
- Attend appropriate committee and staff meetings.
- Prepare transportation budget and/or prepare and administers the transportation budget.
- Request purchases in accordance with budgetary limitations and district rules.
- Approve and forward transportation service invoices to accounting department.
- Oversee the maintenance of all district-owned equipment and develop a plan for preventive maintenance on school buses and vehicles.
- Investigate, complete and dispatch accident and/or insurance reports.
- Prepare all reports, document and/or items required by state authorities and submit them, after review by the Business Manager.
- Take an active role in solving discipline problems occurring school buses.
- Act as liaison with parents for complaints and special requests.
- Provide the purchasing department with contractor performance qualification data.
- Review annually the advisability of a district-owned transportation system.
- Develop recommendations for future equipment and personnel needs based on a survey of resident students, distances and grade levels.
- Develop recommendations for future transportation needs based on an annual survey of resident students.
- Serve as Activities Transportation Coordinator.
- Assist Business Manager in acquiring quotations, bids, purchasing etc. for transportation.
- Log all out-going long distance telephone calls and fax transmittals.
- Attend Board meetings at the request of the Superintendent or his/her authorized designee.
- Fuels and services vehicles and buses prior to departure of school related trips. Services include cleanliness of vehicles as well as mechanical inspection.
- Makes pre-trip inspections on district vehicles before they leave the district as requested and approved through" Transportation Request" forms and/or on an emergency basis.
- Repairs all school district vehicles and buses through "Vehicle Maintenance Work Order" forms and/or on an emergency basis. If unable to repair, make arrangements for repair at a garage.
- Maintains up-to-date maintenance records of all district vehicles and school buses.
- Promotes high standards of safety and housekeeping methods in all work-connected areas.
- Prepares all buses for State Department of Education inspection as required.
- Submits payment vouchers for bus drivers as required for payroll.
- Is on-call as needed for out of district trip breakdowns.
- Perform other assigned tasks required by the supervisor(s).
