Position Overview:
Commonwealth Shakespeare Company is seeking an Associate Production Manager for its Summer 2026 production of Free Shakespeare on the Common:A Midsummer Night's Dream directed by CSC Founding Artistic Director Steven Maler. The performance runs July 22 - August 9, 2026 outdoors on the historic Boston Common, Boston MA.
FLSA Status:
Temporary, full time (seasonal), non-exempt employment on a W-2.
Compensation:$1,384/week to be paid in the week followingpletion of work.
Location: Boston, MA
Occasional meetings with Production Management, Designers, and/or Department Heads to bepleted remotely as needed
Remote meetings with third party vendors as needed
Prep prior to load in to bepleted in Stoughton, Dorchester, and Northborough, MA
Rehearsals to take place at the BLO rehearsal space, Boston MA
Performances on the Boston Common, Boston MA
This is a local hire - no housing or transportation is provided.
Dates of Engagement / General Schedule:
June 1, 2026 - September 6, 2026 on an as needed basis, with July 6 - August 23, 2026 on a first priority basis.

Duties / Responsibilities:
The 2026 production ofA Midsummer Night's Dream celebrates our 30th year of sharing Free Shakespeare productions with Greater Boston audiences. The Associate Production Manager will assist the Production Manager with all elements related to Shakespeare on the Common including but not limited to:
Supervising and Hiring of Staff
Assist Production Manager with hiring of all SOTC production positions
May include screening applications and conducting interviews
Review/sign off on timesheets as needed
Supervise on-site staff as determined by shift schedule
Budgeting
Maintain/manage the production budget as outlined by Production Manager
Ensure all expenses are tracked and accounted for in coordination with other members of the Production Management team
Vendor Relations
Liaise with vendors as needed, which may include obtaining quotes, determining delivery schedules, and making maintenance calls
Production/Design Meetings
Attend production and design meetings
Lead production meetings as necessitated by shift schedule
Assist with scheduling production meetings
Take/distribute notes as needed
Rehearsals
Attend rehearsals as needed, including first rehearsal and designer run throughs
Assist Production Manager with rehearsal prep (obtaining supplies, setting up the hall, ing/copying paperwork, etc.)
Load In/Load Out
oversee andanize the load in and load out process, including:
Creating the specific schedule
Coordinating deliveries/pickups
Supervising on-site staff
Contributing to the install of on-site elements as needed
On-Site Operations
Perform Opening/Closing duties as necessitated by shift schedule
Perform Site Supervisor duties as necessitated by shift schedule
Venue Management
load in and out of the rehearsal hall
Assist with pulling stock items from storage (located in Stoughton, MA) and returning items to storage at load out
Oversee the Shakespeare on the Common Site as needed
Serve as point person for vendors, employees, cast members, designers, security, Park Rangers, and other City of Boston personnel
Complete safety and maintenance checks on a daily basis
Safety Plans
Assist with updating currents safety plans and/or creating new plans as needed
Assist with the enforcement of and implementation of safety plans (First Aid, Weather, General Safety, Security, etc.)
Qualifications:
Qualifications:
Education, training, and/or experience in theatre at a Bachelor's degree or equivalent level
3+ years experience in Production Management or a related field (e.g. Technical Direction, Stage Management)
Excellentanizational and time management skills
Experience in managing large crews
Strong leadership andmunication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience with outdoor theatre a plus
Personal vehicle a plus
Onsite Job Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry 50lbs
Ability to navigate stairs and uneven terrain
Ability to navigate in variable high/low light settings in outdoor conditions.
Valid driver's license
18+ years of age
Experience with and ability to meet all duties and responsibilities as listed above
