QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience supervising or leading employees and teams, preferably within a school transportation or related operational setting. The candidate must be highly organized and capable of developing both short- and long-term plans while ensuring timely and effective implementation. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills are essential, along with the ability to respond quickly and effectively to urgent or unexpected situations. The position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and collaborate with individuals across diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. The candidate should possess strong technology skills and demonstrate the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems. Additionally, the individual must be able to develop and implement strategies that align with division values, processes, and priorities.

DESCRIPTION

The Supervisor of Transportation provides leadership, planning, and oversight for all student transportation services within the division. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective daily transportation of students, while also supporting special events and activities. The Supervisor collaborates closely with school and division leaders to promote a safe and positive learning environment, recognizing the critical role transportation plays in student access and experience. The position requires a proactive and solutions-oriented leader who can manage complex operations, support staff development, and continuously improve systems and services to meet the evolving needs of the division.

GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)

Establishes clear departmental goals aligned with the division's mission and values

Oversees the planning and implementation of efficient bus routes for daily transportation and special events

Ensures all transportation staff meet state and federal training and compliance requirements

Supervises and evaluates transportation staff, incorporating multiple data sources and stakeholder input

Monitors operational effectiveness and efficiency, providing regular data reports aligned to departmental goals

Leads recruitment and retention efforts for transportation staff

Maintains accurate and organized records

Oversees inventory and maintenance of all division vehicles to ensure safety and compliance

Models and promotes effective communication within the department and with families, school staff, and stakeholders

Develops clear procedures, manuals, and guidance documents for transportation staff

Collaborates with school and division leaders to address operational and student needs

Responds to concerns and complaints with professionalism, active listening, and solution-focused action

Develops and manages the department budget

Fosters a positive, collaborative culture within the transportation department and across the division

Performs work as assigned

SUPERVISION

The Supervisor of Transportation directly supervises all transportation department staff, including drivers, attendants, and support personnel, and they report to the Director of Operations.

WORK CONDITIONS

This position operates in a dynamic and fast-paced environment that requires frequent interaction with staff, students, families, and division leaders. The role includes both office-based work and time spent in transportation settings such as bus lots and school campuses. The Supervisor must be available to address early morning and afternoon operational needs, as well as respond to emergencies or urgent situations as they arise. The position may require occasional evening or weekend work to support special events or address operational demands.
