The shipping lead is essentially a team leader who oversees operations at the ground level, making sure that the rest of the team is accurately picking items for shipment to customers.
Coordinate Forklift Operators in daily routine of loading trailers according to SKNA\u2019s standards and factory master
Schedule deliveries in the most cost-efficient and time-saving manner possible, while still meeting customer requirements
Review daily driver\u2019s logs and document any discrepancies
Develop a strong rapport with various freight lines
Become familiar with freight rates for inter-state and intra-state shipping
Secure freight rates prior to shipping
Coordinate and communicate with Sales Service concerning the delivery of product to customers
Accurately prepare bills of lading
Review forklift inspection sheets daily and prepare maintenance work orders as necessary for repairs
Coordinate with Shipping Superintendent, maintenance, and leasing agents for any repairs of forklifts, trucks, trailers, dock plates, dock doors, and any other items as necessary
Support and administer Bates Container\u2019s policies, procedures, and rules
Support and administer all safety policies and programs
Ensure Forklift Operators are operating forklifts in safe and proper manner
Provide training as necessary
Maintain shipping warehouse in an organized and safe manner
Ensure accurate stock locations in shipping warehouse
Maintain a clean and safe warehouse. This includes keeping all sheets off of floor
Improve managerial skills by enrolling and attending seminars and technical courses
Communicate with appropriate supervisory personnel to avoid confusion or problems at shift changes
Arrive at work at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled start of shift
Use proper lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending techniques
Perform each task in a manner which prevents bodily injury, equipment, and product damage
Observe all safety and health guidelines
Learn relevant local and company requirements, rules and procedures. Strictly follows rules and guidelines and always uses the right procedure for the job. Promptly reports incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions or processes. SKNA employees regardless of level, position or tenure are responsible for upholding the safety standards regulations and policies.
High school diploma or GED
Must be able to speak, read, and comprehend English
Must be able to write legibly in English
Able to lift 25-50 lbs. on a consistent basis
Must be able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy
Must be able to read and follow instructions on factory masters
Must have a working telephone number on record with Human Resources, Shipping Superintendent, and Production Manager at all times
Must be a self-starter to the effect he/she must initiate and then follow through to completion of assigned tasks
Must be a qualified Shipping Forklift Operator or Truck Driver
Prior work experience in the corrugated industry
6 months\u2019 experience as a Shipping Forklift Operator or Truck Driver
Supervisory experience as a proven manager/lead of at least 5 people
