Job Title: Operations Manager, EVS Department: University Hospital | Environmental Services

Scope of Position

The Environmental Services (EVS) Manager will provide direction and management oversight for continuous improvement of the standard EVS operating model within the facility; makes sound business decisions in support of the hospitals mission and vision. Demonstrates leadership in providing an optimal environment for patient care, safety, service, and value. Manages the day to day operations of the department; ensures a consistently high level of cleanliness and aesthetics to patients, visitors and staff. The Ohio State University Medical Centers mission is focused on integrating quality patient care, and education; the EVS Manager leads a team of EVS staff cultivating collaboration, enthusiasm, and mutual respect; functions as a key member of the health care team that provides patient care and supportive services in an in-patient setting directed towards achievement of positive patient care outcomes, improving service levels, and decreasing costs; ensures patients and their families will experience the benefits of patient-focused care through the integrated skills of all care team members. The span of control for this position is based on unit capacity, unit complexity, and FTE oversight. Span of control will be based on the current evidence that supports patient satisfaction, quality and safety as well as staff engagement and resilience.

Position Summary:

The EVS Manager oversees plans, organizes, manages and evaluates operations for a designated area(s) on a 24-hour basis as needed; enhances and improves the operations of the unit to support the Medical Centers mission, vision and values; evaluates and identifies achievements and problems in meeting goals; manages, guides, coaches, and evaluates the work performance of environmental services staff in a designated area; promotes and ensures ongoing collaboration with other patient care departments and areas that relate directly or indirectly to patient care operations and services; administers and manages unit budget plans; identifies, plans and initiates cost saving initiatives; identifies opportunities for improvement in patient care and organizational processes; assumes leadership in identifying and correcting factors contributing to problematic outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience plus a minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare, hospitality or institutional management required. Progressive experience in the housekeeping/Environmental services (EVS) field preferred.

On-going: Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) certification or other professional development as identified by the leadership team is required, or received within first two years of employment.
