SAFETY SUPERVISOR - TRANSPORTATION - 1ST SHIFT
The Transportation Safety Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the safety and compliance of all transportation operations. This role oversees driver safety, regulatory compliance, accident investigation, and training initiatives. The supervisor works closely with drivers, dispatch, and management to promote a culture of safety and minimize risk.
Basic Work Requirements:
- Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local transportation safety regulations (e.g., DOT, FMCSA, OSHA).
- Conduct safety audits, inspections, ride-alongs with drivers, inspections inside of the transportation building (VMF).
- Investigate vehicle accidents, incidents, and near-misses; prepare reports and recommend corrective actions.
- Train drivers and transportation staff on safety procedures, defensive driving, and company policies.
- Maintain and monitor driver qualification files, drug and alcohol testing records, and hours-of-service logs.
- Collaborate with Human Resources and Operations to develop and enforce disciplinary actions for safety violations.
- Lead or assist with the onboarding process for new drivers with an emphasis on safety orientation.
- Collaborate with the warehouse safety team to ensure uniformity across compliance programs
- Track and analyze safety metrics; identify trends and recommend safety improvements.
- Support the development and implementation of safety incentive programs.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of safety equipment, including PPE, PITs and vehicle safety devices.
- Participate in emergency response planning and drills related to transportation incidents.
Preferred Work Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required, Associates or Bachelors degree in Transportation, Occupational Safety, or related field preferred.
- 35 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or fleet safety preferred.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, FMCSA requirements, and OSHA standards.
- Excellent communication, training, and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and fleet management software.
- CDL license a plus but not required.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- May involve lifting materials up to 50 pounds.
- Capable of entering and exiting commercial vehicles during inspections.
- Mixture of office and field work, including time spent in a warehouse or on the road.
- May be required to travel locally or regionally.
- Must be able to respond to incidents after hours, if needed.
