General Job Function:

The Forklift Operator is responsible for supplying and staging the production lines with all the necessary materials, packaging, dunnage, and equipment and removing finished goods. The Forklift Operator is also responsible for unloading incoming steel coils and loading trucks with finished goods.

Job Duties:

Operates manufacturing machinery to safely place metal coils on and off an unwinder using a forklift and overhead crane to move material using the proper procedure.

Move, tag, and store materials and finished goods in proper locations, stacking them safely and properly

Unload inbound trucks, ensuring they are appropriately docked and chocked before unloading

Load outbound trucks, ensuring the product is appropriately loaded to include even distribution of weight on the truck

Empty scrap tubs throughout the shift as needed

Complete and maintain all required documentation

Verifies and documents that all functions of the equipment and vehicle are in safe working condition before the beginning of the shift, including checking fluids and safety devices.

Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned, including projects or assignments to support the Plant.

Working Conditions:

The Forklift Operator is in a safety-sensitive position working directly with machinery and equipment in a manufacturing facility. Frequent exposure to a non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment where ambient air temperature can occasionally exceed outside air temperature.

Must be able to bend at the waist and knees, walk and stand for extended periods.

Must lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds when necessary.

Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl under or over, and frequently climb (stairs).

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Must be available to work overtime, including weekends, to meet the organization's needs.

Required Education, Experience & Skills:

A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 2+ years of experience operating a forklift in a manufacturing environment. Experience in inventory control preferred

Ability to work with and communicate (verbal and written) effectively with vendors and within all levels of the organization.

Ability to self-motivate, problem-solve, and work in a dynamic environment

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide inches and pounds using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to complete written, oral, or diagram instructions.

Must possess and maintain a valid forklift operator's license issued by the Company.
