The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Washington State University (WSU) serves as a hub for innovation and collaboration in addressing pressing issues in crime and justice. The Washington State Data Exchange for Public Safety (WADEPS) is a state-led initiative to enhance transparency and trust through standardized reporting of police use-of-force incidents. It provides tools for stakeholders to analyze data at various levels and supports officer training and statistical research through partnerships with organizations like WSU and CJTC. WADEPS is backed by secure technology infrastructure from WSU Information Technology Services and AWS, ensuring efficient data management and accessibility.

As the Cloud Operations Manager , you will be responsibility for testing, documenting, debugging, implementing, and maintaining a serverless AWS environment for WADEPS. Infrastructure includes a React web application, data lake, and public-facing QuickSight dashboards. Solutions are developed and deployed following industry standards for source control, testing, continuous integration and continuous deployment, and operational monitor and alerting. You will also provide support for cloud resource management, maintenance, and infrastructure design ensuring software and run times are kept current and free of critical vulnerabilities.

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100 % FTE), permanent position.

Monthly Salary: $5,000 - $8,750 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in cloud operations, DevOps, or a related role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in AWS services, CI/CD tools, automation frameworks, and security best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with serverless architectures and data lake management.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation, including architecture diagrams, configuration details, and operational procedures.
  • Familiarity with aligning documentation with published policies and standards.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, or similar certifications.
