The position interfaces with customer service, production control, purchasing, assembly, West Coast Branches and external customers. Additionally, it will provide departmental support by placing purchase orders, participating in problem solving, approving freight bills, and updating work instructions. This individual provides leadership to warehouse, shipping and receiving employees. The work schedule for this position requires flexibility due to various work schedules of individuals within the Logistics Department. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Directs personnel to accomplish daily goals. 2. Identifies and leads activities designed to improve and increase overall department throughput. 3. Serves as back-up role for Logistics Manager. 4. Oversees the flow of materials into, through, and out of the department with an ongoing goal of meeting or exceeding customer expectations on delivery. 5. Works with freight carriers to achieve customer satisfaction, on-time delivery, lead time, quality, and cost reduction targets. 6. Maintains in-process and completed department shipping files. 7. Traces freight that has been shipped, handles some claims and provides other shipping documents as requested. 8. Works with various departments on special needs of customers, shortages, priorities, credit issues, etc. 9. Prepares export documentation needed to clear freight through customs and coordinates export crating with outside brokers. 10. Prepares department Purchase Orders. 11. Approves freight bills. 12. Processes Return Purchase Orders. 13. Assists with warehouse transactions and inventory control process. 14. Prints and distributes Parts and Stock Transfer pick sheets. 15. Prepares reports as assigned, such as metrics and dock report. 16. Monitors and responds to emails for information on priority shipments, document requests, shipping updates, warehouse priorities and requests. 17. Documents and updates work instructions. 18. Performs End of Month inventory reconciliation. 19. Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly. 20. Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 1. Personal computer skills and data base transactions; SAP preferred. 2. Knowledge of logistics concepts-practices, inventory control, and freight movement. 3. Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly. 4. Demonstrated ability to effectively organize, lead and operate as a member of a problem solving team. 5. Must be able to discriminate and transcribe numbers correctly. 6. Good work ethics. 7. Forklift experience preferred. 8. Must be able to take and follow written and oral instructions. 9. Able to communicate in English (both written and oral) as it relates to the job.
