DUTY LOCATION:  VA Medical Center- Miam, FL Major duties and responsibilities include: ·         Serves as a Medical Supply Technician located in the Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization Section, at the Miami VA Medical Center and is aligned under Patient Care Services. ·         Rotates assignments among the various sterilization processing, surgical tray assembly, decontamination and clinic assembly and sterilization functions in a continually changing medical and surgical facility. ·          Requires extensive knowledge of the complete range of surgical instrumentation, surgical tray assemblies, clinic trays and manufacturer's requirements for cleaning, assembly and sterilization, disposable and reusable medical supplies, and patient care equipment. ·         Operates sophisticated microprocessor decontamination and sterilization equipment. ·          Stays well-versed in the operation of the Ethylene Oxide sterilization equipment and aware of the danger surrounding the use of this toxic medical gas. ·         Stays informed and aware of the changing guidelines and regulations as they apply to a Central Sterile Operation. ·         Participates in continual in-servicing and department team meetings. ·          Completes and acquires certification under the VA SPD Certification Program while in the position as dictated in VA Handbook 7176 Supply, Processing and Distribution Operational Requirements Part 1.3.103.b.; acquiring certification within one year of employment. ·         Operates all decontamination equipment in special area receiving items soiled with tissue, blood and body fluids and otherwise contaminated material. ·         Decontaminates, identifies, and systematically segregates reusable items for preparation, reprocessing and sterilization. ·         Identifies and receives contaminated surgical instrument sets, clinic trays, ward trays, endoscopic equipment, specialty carts, saws, drills and a variety of other items and devices from all areas in the medical center while prioritizing instruments and sets needed for surgery and clinics. ·         Selects proper cleaning methods based on manufacturer’s instructions, experience, and training, for pre-cleaning and cleaning all the different instruments, power tools and equipment sent to DPS. ·         Uses a variety of brushes, applicators, pipe cleaners, detergents and germicides. ·         Selects the appropriate mechanical cleaner such as an ultrasonic washer, washer decontaminator, scope cleaner or cannulated instrument cleaner. ·         Performs other related duties as assigned.   ***RELOCATION EXPENSES AND/OR INCENTIVES ARE NOT AUTHORIZED***
