The Virginia Beach facility has over one million square feet of warehouse and production area. Buyer STIHL Inc. has an immediate opening for a Buyer! As part of our Purchasing department you will play a vital role in sourcing and selecting suppliers for our manufacturing operations. You have the opportunity to work among our 1800 employees located in Virginia Beach , VA and analyze and procure components required for production. STIHL produces various finished products including chain saws, blowers, and trimmers, which are sold throughout the world at independently owned dealerships. Are you interested in learning more? Position Responsibilities: · Responsible for coordinating the procurement of multiple complex components and parts in order to support new product development. · Review and analyzes procurement requirements and locates and develops suppliers accordingly in accordance with ISO procedures and corporate directives. · Researches and develops competent suppliers of high quality components by preparing bids, proposals, or other informational requests that contain material specification and supplier operational data. · Analyzes requested materials, assessing financial stability and manufacturing capabilities of suppliers and assists in making the best sourcing decisions for the STIHL Group. · Develops positive relations with potential suppliers through thorough communications of STIHL philosophy, material requirements and pricing objectives. Contacts suppliers regarding material problems, such as delayed receipt, poor quality, wrong items, etc., and resolves issues. · Visits supplier locations to negotiate prices, review and analyze operations and conduct supplier audits to check quality, evaluating short-term and long-term ability of suppliers to meet STIHL expectations. · Works with other department personnel such as Production, Quality Assurance, Engineering, etc. to plan for future requirements, or incorporate technical needs into future bids and proposals. Works with R&D, Project Engineers and Manufacturing on complex problems. Works with Engineering, Finance and Manufacturing in developing Make or Buy decisions. · Cooperates with the STIHL Purchasing Group worldwide by sharing pertinent data and cost analyses as required, in order to establish optimal global supply chain management strategies. Requirements: · 4 year Bachelors degree in related discipline. · Minimum of 4 years experience performing strategic sourcing in the manufacturing industry. · Experience utilizing an MRP system a plus but not required. · Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required. · Experience using SAP as an MRP system preferred, but not required.
